Preventing Sports inequality in the future
In order to prevent inequality in sports based on gender, society must accept socially equal gender norms for men and women in sports. Instead of having a seperate women and men's qualification time, there must be one qualification time for both genders to ensure equality. Women must be allowed to participate in the same sports as men, and men must be able to vice versa. Instead calling sports men's and women's basketball, it must be simply basketball. If skill level is the problem, one could separate into a A-Team and a B-Team indicating division based on skill, not gender. These type of adjustments can begin to create an equality in sports based on gender. With equality emphasized through title 9, media coverage and the reduction of stereotypes the future may be brighter for equality in gender dictated sports.
In reference to the media, many argue that we need more women in power within the media organizations to help challenge masculine ideas and sexism. Although women are underrepresented in such positions of power within the media, it would be a good place to start inorder to improve gender equality in sports and beyond.
